Ocean Sciences Meeting 2018: Framework for Ocean Observing: Community Review of Next Steps in Preparation for OceanObs ‘19

Tuesday February 13, 2018

6:30-7:30 PM

Oregon Convention Center Room F150

The need for interdisciplinary, internationally integrated ocean observations was a key recommendation of the OceanObs’09 Conference (oceanobs09.net). To address this need the Framework for Ocean Observing (Framework) was developed in 2012 (www.oceanobs09.net/foo). During the past five years the Framework has been adopted by the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) and used by a variety of groups to coordinate sustained global ocean observing efforts focused on Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs), Readiness Levels, and Best Practices to support science and societal needs. This Town Hall meeting will review feedback provided thus far, how this effort relates to other activities such as the AtlantOS Blueprint project and OceanObs ’19 planning, and invite further comment on how best to enhance utility of the Framework.
